The WHMCS Module now supports language files and configuration files, two fantastic steps forward in opening up the module to allow our end users to customize the module to suit their own tastes, as well as allowing the community around the module to contribute back to the project.

Buongiorno Language Files!

We were recently contacted and asked if the WHMCS module could be translated into other languages. At the time it could not be, and we all agreed that this would be a great feature to add to the module for international support.

After discussing the best route to take, we decided to implement this in a similar manner to how the WHMCS implement language files, to help ease the use of this feature. You can of course modify the English language file, if our default wording doesn’t quite suit your needs, and you can modify the email templates from inside WHMCS itself.

Language files are stored in MODULE_DIR/Languages/dictionary/<language_name>.txt these contain PHP code that is interpreted by the Language object.

Configuration file

To help with the introduction of the language file, we have also implemented a (currently tiny) config.ini in the root directory of the module, which can be modified to change the language in use by the module, note that a fatal exception will be thrown if you specify a language that does not exist in the dictionary directory.

You can also specify the log level in here, although I would recommend leaving this on its current setting.

In the future

More features will certainly be added to the configuration file as time goes on, and if you have any suggestion of items you would like to be able to configure, I’d love to hear them!

Contribution

You are welcome to create your own language file, or different versions for the same language, and we will include them in our distribution, it currently comes with the default english.txt and also an automatically translated Italian dictionary.

If you do have a language file you would like us to include in our distribution, please email the file to us, and after we have confirmed it is correct we will include it in our distribution.

Finally

We hope you appreciate and enjoy using these new features as much as we have enjoyed creating and testing them, as always, if you notice any problems, or would like to suggest an alternative way for this system to work, then please let us know by either commenting below, or emailing us.

After a fresh install of a new WHMCS Module it can be comforting to know it works before letting it loose on your clients!

Test SSL Ordering Process

This article will inform users of the WHMCS SSL Module how they can test that the SSL ordering process is working correctly without having to actually order a certificate from Comodo. It is really rather straight forward to do, but might not be immediately apparent to a new user.

Why test it?

After a fresh install of a new WHMCS Module it can be comforting to know it works before letting it loose on your clients! At SSL Cheap we fully understand this mentality and as such we have built in a testmode, right into the heart of our WHMCS Module.

Best Environment

Here at SSL Cheap, we prefer to test the WHMCS Module from our developer WHMCS install, and then run tests from our live WHMCS site, once completed the test mode is disabled and the products are displayed to clients.

How to test the Module

The testing process is essentially broken down into 3 parts:

Create the test product and hide it from regular clients

Order the product as the client and simulate payment

Test the product as the client in the client area

Create the test product

Create a new product in WHMCS which will be the SSL certificate you wish to order as a test. In the Details section of this product tick the ‘Hidden’ tick box. In the module settings section, choose the SSL Certificate you want to test the ordering process for, and then enter your comodo details and tick test mode.

Order the product

Now you need to create a test client, or you most likely already have one, afterwards find this client as an admin user, and click ‘login as client‘ (it is important that you do it this way, as only admins can see the hidden products). Whilst logged in as an admin simulating your test client, order your new test certificate, then return to the admin area, find the invoice that is due (ensure your product is in test mode!) and click add payment to simulate a credit card payment.

Check the client area

Now that this is almost complete, find your test client again and click log in as client, then manage products, and click the new SSL Certificate you have just ordered. You can now test that everything in here is functioning correctly (It is still important that your product remains in test mode for the duration of this testing period).

Finally…

Once you are comfortable that everything is set up and functioning correctly, delete your test order, modify the test product and in the module settings section untick test mode. Then in the Details section you can untick Hidden, so that regular clients can now see this product.

Explaining the difference between Essential SSL Certificates and Positive SSL Certificates.

Comparing SSL Certificates

After being asked to explain the difference between Essential SSL Certificates and Positive SSL Certificates, we thought it best to write a brief article explaining the difference between these types of certificates in case others had the same question. First I will show all of the details of a Positive SSL Certificate, which I will follow with details of Essential SSL Certificates, and then a brief comparison between these Certificates.

Positive SSL Certificates

Positive SSL Certificates are one the most cost effective SSL Certificate available today. Issued within 10 minutes, Positive SSL Certificates provide a quick cost effective solution to secure your customer transactions. More importantly, your customers are assured that it is safe to do business with you because sensitive information is encrypted and remains private.

Domain validated certificate

1024 bit Industry Standard SSL Certificate

Unlimited Re-Issuance Policy

99.3% Browser Compatibility

128/256 bit encryption

30 day Refund Policy

$10,000 relying party warranty

Essential SSL Certificate

Essential SSL provides domain validation but does not authenticate the business behind the online business. Essential SSL Certificates come with a golden padlock and 99.3% browser trust, and are ideal for non-ecommerce sites that require encryption. With Essential SSL certificates, in minutes you can have a high level of security with the golden padlock that your customers will look for to verify that your site is secure.

Domain validated, 2048 bit Industry Standard SSL Certificate

Immediate “No Hassle” SSL certificate issuance 24/7

Automated validation – no paperwork

FREE site seal

Risk free 30 day refund policy

Unlimited Re-Issuance Policy

Free Registration in IdAuthority

Trusted by all popular browsers with 99.3% Ubiquity

$10,000 relying party warranty

Comparson

The major difference here is that the Essential SSL Certificate does come with a free site seal, whilst the Positive SSL Certificate doesn’t. Generally, Essential SSL Certificates should be used when the customer is setting up a service that will require secure interfacing with clients and growth in confidence will help. Positive SSL could be well utilised for a web service that does not require the site seal and etc, but rather just needs the information passing to and from the service to be encrypted.

Finally…

As always we do enjoy hearing from you, and would love for you to comment if you have any questions or thoughts on this post, alternatively you can send a mail to resellers@sslcheap.com.
